Visibility at Miller's Point this morning

Posted by MariusK · 2 hours ago

Shore entry

Surge was manageable before 8am, vis around 4–5 meters past the first sand channel. Water temp read 13°C on my computer. Kelp is thick near the northern point, so the usual route along the reef edge is still the safest bet.

Buddy needed for Saturday morning at Long Beach

Posted by KelpWalker · 5 hours ago

Buddy finder

Planning a two-dive morning, aiming for high tide around 7:40. I dive a 7mm semi-dry and have a spare torch if anyone needs one. Comfortable with moderate surge, but happy to stick to the inner reef if you prefer calmer water.

Secondhand 5mm wetsuit in good condition

Posted by SandyBottom · yesterday

Equipment swap

Selling a barely used 5mm open-cell suit, size L. No tears, zippers work smoothly. I switched to a semi-dry for winter and no longer need it. Can bring it to the next beach cleanup if anyone wants to inspect it in person.

Crayfish season notes: what to check before you go

Posted by ReefWatcher · 2 days ago

Season notes

Reminder that the recreational season is open, but permit rules and size limits still apply. A few of us noticed more activity around the rocky gullies at Shark Alley. Check the latest regulations before heading out, and always log your catch in the forum thread.

Beginner question: reading the tide tables for shore entries

Posted by NewToTheCape · 3 days ago

Beginner help

I'm still figuring out how to plan dives around the tide. Some threads mention entering on a rising tide, others say slack water is safer. Can someone explain how this works for the reefs near Simon's Town? I'd rather learn from local experience than guess.
